Car Culture looks at the interrelationship of cars, people and society—for better or worse. We associate the ubiquitous automobile with romantic notions of the freeing, open road; with the craftsmanship of customization; and with the prestige of conspicuous consumption. Cars are also combustible devices that frustrate us when they malfunction, pollute the environment and become tools of global malevolence, from smuggling to car bombings. Car Culture spans from parody to politics. It encourages viewers to think about cars as never before through the eyes of artists Robert Bechtle, David Claerbout, Margarita Cabrera, Robert Frank, Liz Cohen, Jens Haaning, Ahmet Ögüt, Hans Op de Beeck, Walid Raad, Amy Stein and Erwin Wurm.

Organized by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Sponsored by Eric Jungermann and Family.
